11-Year-Old Girl Commended for Quick Action During Teacher's Seizure
An 11-year-old girl named Lily-Mae has received praise for her quick thinking after her teacher, Tom Ray, experienced a seizure during a maths lesson. While some students initially thought it was a joke, Lily-Mae recognized the seriousness of the situation when Mr. Ray lost consciousness and hit his head on the whiteboard.
Drawing on her Sea Cadets training, Lily-Mae jumped over a table to assist her teacher, evacuated her classmates from the classroom, and alerted school staff, who then called for medical help. She emphasized the importance of remaining calm in emergencies, a skill she learned during her training.
Mr. Ray, who manages his epilepsy with medication, noted that he had never had a seizure like that in class and commended Lily-Mae for her composed response, which he said many adults would find challenging. Lily-Mae's mother expressed immense pride in her daughter's actions, while Lily-Mae shared her aspirations of joining the Royal Navy and becoming an astronaut.
