2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Scheduled for Saturday
The 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set for Saturday, September 26, marking a shift from its originally planned Sunday date. This change was made to accommodate Azerbaijan Remembrance Day, which falls on September 27, a day dedicated to honoring military personnel lost during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War.
The decision to move the race was influenced by a request from the Azerbaijan promoter and government stakeholders. The war, which began on September 27, 2020, lasted 44 days and resulted in significant casualties for Azerbaijan, with 2,783 soldiers reported killed.
This adjustment means that the entire F1 weekend will be shifted forward by one day, with media day on Wednesday, practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, and the race itself on Saturday. While F1 races are typically held on Sundays, there have been instances of races occurring on other days, including the British Grand Prix, which was traditionally held on Saturdays until 1975.
