2026 Preseason AP Top 25 Poll Reveals High Spending on College Football Rosters
The 2026 preseason Associated Press Top 25 Poll indicates that many college football programs are investing significantly in their rosters, with a focus on name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals. Reports suggest that seven schools are spending over $40 million to attract top talent.
A survey conducted by CBS Sports among over 50 college football insiders revealed that six of the schools spending $40 million or more are ranked in the top 10, including Ohio State at No. 1. Ole Miss and Georgia are also among the top 10, nearing the $40 million threshold.
LSU, ranked No. 11, is noted for potentially having the most expensive roster in college football, estimated to exceed $50 million. The team's significant investment is attributed to acquiring the top transfer class. Meanwhile, Indiana, the defending national champions, reportedly spent over $15 million on their 2025 roster, although they did not reach the $40 million mark.
