49ers QB Kurtis Rourke Hospitalized After Rib Injury

Kurtis Rourke, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was taken to the hospital for precautionary tests after experiencing difficulty breathing due to a rib injury sustained during a preseason game on Thursday night.

Coach Kyle Shanahan stated that while the injury does not appear to be serious, the medical staff opted for caution given Rourke's breathing issues. Initial X-rays did not indicate a fracture, but further imaging was conducted to ensure his safety. Rourke had completed 12 of 14 passes for 101 yards before exiting the game.

Following Rourke's departure, Adrian Martinez took over as quarterback, completing 16 of 30 passes for 159 yards. Shanahan noted that if Martinez had also been injured, tight end Brayden Willis would have stepped in as quarterback, with the team resorting to handoff plays.
