49ers Release Running Back Khalil Herbert After Short Tenure
Khalil Herbert has been released by the San Francisco 49ers after a brief two-week stint with the team.
The veteran running back's release was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. This decision suggests that the 49ers are content with their running back health and depth, despite facing several injuries within the group. In a recent preseason game, Herbert recorded six carries for 18 yards and two receptions for 35 yards, but he would have faced limited opportunities if the other running backs remained healthy.
Herbert, who is 28 years old, was a sixth-round pick by the Bears in 2021 and played four seasons in Chicago before being traded to the Bengals. He has also been with the Colts, Seahawks, and Jets, and will now seek another opportunity with a different team.
