Aakash Chopra Warns India on WTC Qualification Ahead of Sri Lanka Tests

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, has expressed concerns regarding India's prospects of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2025-27. He emphasized that the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15, is crucial for India's chances.

Currently, India is in fifth place in the WTC standings with four wins and four losses, resulting in a points percentage of 48.15. Sri Lanka is just below them in sixth place, having secured one win, one loss, and two draws, with a points percentage of 41.67. Chopra noted that a 2-0 defeat for India would significantly harm their qualification hopes while enhancing Sri Lanka's chances.

Chopra highlighted the implications of the series results, stating that a clean sweep would improve India's standing slightly, while a drawn series would yield minimal benefits for either team. He also pointed out the challenges India faces in their remaining WTC schedule, including a difficult two-Test series in New Zealand and a five-Test series against Australia at home.
