Aaron Ashby Sets New Record for Scoreless Innings by a Reliever
Aaron Ashby, a left-handed pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, established a new record for scoreless innings by a reliever in a single postseason during Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night. He achieved this feat by completing a 1-2-3 ninth inning, bringing his total to 18 scoreless innings across nine postseason appearances.
In addition to the ninth inning, Ashby also pitched a scoreless tenth and recorded the first out in the eleventh inning. The Brewers were tied 2-2 with the Tampa Bay Rays as they entered the 12th inning, leading the series 3-0 and just one win away from their first World Series title.
During the regular season, Ashby had a record of 13-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 71 relief appearances. In the postseason, he has been particularly effective, allowing only five hits and three walks while striking out 20 batters. Previously, Andrew Miller held the record for the longest consecutive scoreless relief innings in a postseason with 16 innings in 2016.
