Aaron Ashby Sets New Record for Scoreless Relief Innings in Post-Season
In a recent World Series game, Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby achieved a new milestone by breaking the record for scoreless innings by a reliever in a single post-season. This occurred during Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he delivered a flawless ninth inning.
Following his perfect ninth, Ashby continued his strong performance into the tenth inning and retired the first batter in the eleventh, maintaining his streak of not allowing any runs across 18 innings in nine post-season games. The Brewers were tied 2-2 in the eleventh inning and were leading the series 3-0, just one win away from clinching their first World Series title.
During the regular season, Ashby recorded a 13-3 record with a 3.12 ERA over 71 relief appearances. In the current post-season, he has only given up five hits and has struck out 20 batters. Previously, Andrew Miller held the record for consecutive scoreless relief innings in a single post-season with 16 innings in 2016. Overall, Ashby has now thrown a career-best total of 22.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
