Aaron Nola Exits Game After Ankle Injury Against Blue Jays

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola left his game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday after sustaining an injury in the sixth inning. He was struck on the right ankle by a line drive hit by Jesus Sanchez.

Nola was diagnosed with a right knee contusion following the incident, but X-rays showed no fractures. The ball, which was hit at a speed of 105 mph, caused Nola to initially attempt to continue pitching before he handed the ball to manager Don Mattingly and was replaced by reliever Brooks Raley.

During his outing, Nola pitched five-plus innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and two walks while recording eight strikeouts, including the 2,000th of his career. This season has been challenging for Nola, who entered the game with a career-high ERA of 5.55 over 23 starts.
