Aaron Philo Named Starting Quarterback for Florida Gators

Aaron Philo has been named the starting quarterback for the Florida Gators as new head coach Jon Sumrall aims to elevate the football program's status. Philo, who transferred from Georgia Tech, is expected to make his debut against Florida Atlantic on September 5.

Philo entered fall camp competing with Tramell Jones Jr. for the starting position. His selection was anticipated due to his prior experience with Florida's offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner at Georgia Tech. Philo, a 6-foot-1, 207-pound athlete from Bogart, Georgia, was a standout high school quarterback, setting a state record with 13,922 career passing yards.

During his senior year at Prince Avenue Christian School, he threw for 4,596 yards and set a single-season record with 56 touchdowns. After redshirting in 2024, he served as the backup quarterback in 2025, participating in three games and completing 21 of 28 passes for 373 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
