Rodgers stated that he would play if head coach Mike McCarthy makes that decision, despite having not participated in a preseason game since 2023. He described preseason games as not being 'real football' and noted that he is not actively seeking extra snaps in his 22nd NFL season.

McCarthy mentioned that he has never encountered a quarterback who did not want to play, emphasizing that the decision will ultimately be his. The game marks the first of two consecutive home preseason games for the Steelers.
