Abhishek Porel Included in Bengal Squad for Ranji Trophy After Bail
Abhishek Porel, a wicketkeeper-batter, has been named in Bengal's 17-member squad for their Ranji Trophy season opener against Delhi, following his recent release on bail in a case involving allegations of rape and other sexual offenses. The match is scheduled to take place at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani.
Porel was arrested in August after a complaint from a woman medical student, who claimed they had been in a relationship for over three years with intentions of marriage. He was granted bail and has not participated in competitive cricket since the IPL 2026. Abhimanyu Easwaran will continue as captain for the team.
The venue for the match was changed from Eden Gardens, which is preparing for the Durga Puja festivities, to accommodate the event. Porel's inclusion follows his participation in practice matches last month, with officials stating that his legal issues are separate from team matters.
