Acrisure Stadium Faces Quick Turnaround This Weekend
Acrisure Stadium, home to both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers, is set for a rapid transition this weekend as it hosts two games in quick succession. On Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Panthers will face Georgia Tech, followed by the Steelers hosting the Browns on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
The conversion from the college configuration to the professional setup will put additional strain on the playing surface. Last year, concerns about the grass quality were prevalent, with Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers describing it as nearly unplayable. However, changes made to the field's construction have alleviated some of these issues.
This weekend's tight schedule highlights the challenges of sharing a venue between a college and a professional team. While there were options to adjust the timing of the games, the NFL opted to maintain the Steelers' game at its original time. Steelers owner Art Rooney II has mentioned the possibility of switching to artificial turf if the current grass setup does not perform well during this critical test.
