AFL Addresses Concussion Issues Following Geelong's Controversy

The AFL has requested that clubs disclose any issues related to concussion agreements to prevent incidents similar to the situation involving Geelong's Jake Kolodjashnij. This appeal was made in a memo from AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon, emphasizing the importance of open discussions regarding concussion protocols.

Geelong is expected to face significant penalties for failing to submit necessary documents related to a concussion waiver signed in 2024. The club's chief executive, Steve Hocking, has accepted responsibility for the situation, while team captain Patrick Dangerfield acknowledged the club's errors.

Former Geelong president Craig Drummond, now the AFL Commission chairman, has recused himself from the investigation, citing the complexity of the matter. He noted that the club's decision to include a waiver in the consent document was inappropriate and has since been retracted, reaffirming the player's rights under health and safety laws.
