AFL Announces Preliminary Finals Schedule
The AFL has announced the schedule for the Preliminary Finals, set for the second last week of the season. Sydney will face Fremantle at the SCG on Friday, September 18, at 7:40pm AEST, while Hawthorn will host Brisbane at the MCG on Saturday, September 19, at 5:15pm AEST.
The Finals Series has featured several one-sided matches, with a notable game last Friday between Fremantle and Geelong. Brisbane advanced to this round after a decisive victory over Adelaide, winning by 53 points. This performance follows their previous loss to Sydney by the same margin.
Brisbane aims to achieve a second three-peat of premierships, having previously won three consecutive titles from 2001 to 2003. The remaining four teams in the finals are the top four from the home-and-away season, highlighting the advantage of the double chance. Notably, Hawthorn and Brisbane have never met in a final, while Sydney and Fremantle will compete in their third Preliminary Final matchup.
