AFL Boss Acknowledges Technology Failure in Elimination Final

Greg Swann, the AFL boss, has acknowledged a failure in technology during the elimination final held on Saturday night, which affected a crucial decision regarding Ollie Dempsey's goal attempt.

The AFL had promoted new goal-line cameras intended to enhance clarity for goal reviews; however, an existing camera failed to provide clear evidence in this instance. Dempsey's shot was ruled a behind, leading to frustration from Geelong's coach Chris Scott and the team's supporters.

Swann noted that he initially believed it was a goal, but due to the umpire's soft call and lack of conclusive evidence during the review, the decision was upheld. He explained that the goal umpire's ruling was based on his assessment, and the technology did not provide definitive clarity, leading to the final decision being made in favor of the umpire's call.
