AFL CEO Addresses Sydney Swans Scandal and Brownlow Medal Invitations
AFL CEO Andrew Dillion spoke to the media during the launch of the 2026 finals, marking his first public comments on the sexual assault allegations involving Sydney Swans players.
The players, Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon, and Riley Bice, have been suspended for the season following a breach of club standards. A police investigation is currently underway regarding the incident that occurred last week at Melbourne's Pullman Hotel, with the AFL planning its own inquiry once the police investigation concludes.
Dillion emphasized the AFL's commitment to treating women with respect and stated that the actions of the five players do not reflect the values of the community or the game. He confirmed that these players will not be invited to the upcoming Brownlow Medal ceremony, although they remain eligible for votes. Additionally, the AFL is reviewing its illicit drugs policy in light of the allegations.
