AFL Coaches Under Pressure as 2027 Season Approaches
As the 2027 AFL season approaches, four coaches are under scrutiny regarding their future in the league. Matthew Nicks of Adelaide, Luke Beveridge from the Western Bulldogs, Ross Lyon of St Kilda, and Andrew McQualter from West Coast are all contracted until the end of the season.
The pressure varies among them, with Nicks facing the most intense scrutiny. Beveridge, McQualter, and Lyon could also find their positions at risk if their teams do not perform well. The recent departure of coaches like Alastair Clarkson and Michael Voss adds to the tension surrounding coaching roles in the league.
The Bulldogs' upcoming fixtures include matches against Fremantle, St Kilda, and Adelaide, among others. To secure a contract extension, Beveridge's team must aim for a top four finish or reach at least the Preliminary Final. A poor performance could lead to job loss, particularly if the team fails to finish in the top ten.
