AFL Commission Chairman Drummond Addresses Geelong's $140,000 Fine

Geelong Football Club has been fined $140,000 by the AFL due to a concussion waiver issue involving player Jake Kolodjashnij. The penalty was announced on Thursday, following revelations that the club had signed a secret contract to protect itself from potential litigation regarding head injuries.

Craig Drummond, who was president of Geelong during the incident and is now the chairman of the AFL Commission, issued a statement addressing the situation. He emphasized that the health and wellbeing of Kolodjashnij was a priority in the club's decisions. Drummond acknowledged that the independent legal review confirmed the club's process involved extensive consultations and that there was no intention to hide the agreement from the AFL.

Drummond expressed regret that the waiver document was not submitted to the AFL as required, and he committed to improving processes related to player safety and concussion management. AFL CEO Andrew Dillon commented on whether the fine was sufficient, considering Geelong's previous issues. Drummond is scheduled to hold a press conference later on Thursday to further discuss the matter.
