AFL Suspends Lachie Cowan for Two Games Over Substance Use
The AFL has announced a two-game suspension for Lachie Cowan after he confessed to using an illicit substance during a party last weekend. In addition to the suspension, Cowan has been given a $5000 suspended fine and will be required to participate in educational programs.
This incident has been classified as a notifiable adverse finding under the AFL's Illicit Drugs Policy. Cowan was found guilty of conduct unbecoming, prompting an investigation by Carlton, which provided information to the AFL for further inquiries.
AFL COO Tom Harley emphasized the responsibility players have to uphold community standards and acknowledged Cowan's admission of his mistake. In a statement, Cowan expressed remorse for his actions and thanked those who supported him. The AFL's updated illicit drugs policy will take effect in January 2027, following educational sessions for players and clubs.
