AFL to Introduce Second Dreamtime Match in 2027
The AFL will introduce a second Dreamtime match between Essendon and Richmond in 2027, scheduled for Round 16 in Perth.
This new fixture, named 'Dreamtime at Maali', will complement the existing Dreamtime at the G match, which is expected to occur in May. Richmond will host the game at the MCG, while Essendon will take charge of the new match at Optus Stadium.
The clubs have entered a two-year agreement with the Western Australian government, with hosting rights set to alternate in 2028. The decision to hold a match in Perth is financially motivated, as both teams anticipate strong attendance, supported by their significant fan base in Western Australia. The previous Dreamtime match at Optus Stadium in 2021 attracted 55,656 spectators.
