Ahkello Witherspoon Retires from NFL at Age 31

Ahkello Witherspoon has retired from professional football at the age of 31 after a nine-season career in the NFL, where he played for the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Los Angeles Rams.

The Washington Commanders placed Witherspoon on the reserve/retired list, concluding his career before he could play for the team. Drafted 66th overall by the 49ers in 2017, he made an immediate impact by starting in Week 8 of his rookie season, recording two interceptions and seven pass breakups over nine starts.

Throughout his career, Witherspoon faced challenges, including injuries that hindered his time with the 49ers. However, he revitalized his career in Pittsburgh, earning a two-year extension after impressive performances. His tenure with the Rams showcased his skills, as he recorded three interceptions and 14 pass breakups in 2023.
