Airman Dies After Fall During Pregame Event at Alamodome
An airman has died following injuries from a fall during a pregame event at the Alamodome in San Antonio, confirmed by Nellis Air Force Base Public Affairs. The incident occurred before Saturday's college football game between the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the Navy.
The airman, part of the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, fell while participating in a rappelling demonstration related to UTSA's Salute to Armed Forces & Veterans game. Reports indicate that one of four service members lost control while descending and fell to the ground. Medical personnel quickly responded, and the injured airman was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The game was briefly delayed as medical teams attended to the airman, leading UTSA coach Jeff Traylor to keep his players in the locker room during the incident. Following the event, players expressed their condolences and reflected on the somber atmosphere, emphasizing the gravity of the situation beyond the football game. UTSA ultimately won the match against Navy, 38-34, in front of 23,297 spectators.
