A'ja Wilson Makes WNBA History as First Five-Time MVP
A'ja Wilson has made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to win five Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards. The Las Vegas Aces star was informed of her third consecutive MVP award during a message from former US vice-president Kamala Harris.
Despite the honor, Wilson chose not to participate in the ceremony scheduled for Friday night, prioritizing her focus on an essential playoff game against the Golden State Valkyries. Previous celebrations for MVP honors have coincided with losses for the Aces, which influenced her decision to skip the event.
This season, Wilson led the league with an average of 26.2 points per game, marking her third consecutive year as the top scorer. She has also achieved significant milestones, including being an eight-time All-Star and tying her own record for scoring at least 30 points in 13 games during a single season.
