Al-Nassr Faces Challenges in Saudi Pro League Amid Rival Strengthening
Al-Nassr, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, is encountering significant challenges in the Saudi Pro League as the club navigates a crucial phase of the season. The team is facing financial restrictions imposed by the league's Financial Monitoring Committee, which are linked to debts exceeding 800 million Saudi riyals, approximately $213 million.
The Public Investment Fund, which owns Al-Nassr, has tightened financial controls, requiring the club to prove sufficient revenue before making new signings. This has hindered Al-Nassr's ability to register new players during the current transfer window, limiting their capacity to compete with rivals who are actively strengthening their squads.
Despite these challenges, Al-Nassr managed to sign Portuguese midfielder Samu Costa from Real Mallorca for around $25.6 million. However, retaining existing players has also been difficult, with contract issues affecting Saudi winger Abdulrahman Ghareeb. Meanwhile, rivals Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad continue to enhance their rosters with established European talent, raising concerns about Al-Nassr's competitiveness as they aim to defend their title.
