Al-Taawoun Punished for Fan Misconduct During Match

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has imposed a penalty on Al-Taawoun, requiring the team to play their next two home matches in the Saudi Pro League without spectators. This decision follows an incident where fans directed taunts at Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves concerning the death of Diogo Jota.

As part of the punishment, Al-Taawoun has also been fined 100,000 riyals, equivalent to approximately $26,660. The incident occurred during a match where Al-Hilal defeated Al-Taawoun 6-0, with fans recorded chanting Jota's name towards Neves.

Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in July 2025, was a close friend of Neves and a former teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo. Following the match, Ronaldo expressed his disapproval of the fans' behavior on social media, calling for action against such conduct. Neves also reacted during the game, signaling his discontent with the situation.
