Alabama Freshman Defensive Back Jireh Edwards Receives Praise from Coordinator Kane Wommack
Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack has recently praised freshman defensive back Jireh Edwards, noting his potential to make significant plays in the upcoming season.
Wommack described Edwards as one of the most instinctive playmakers he has encountered from high school, emphasizing his physicality and impressive ball-tracking skills. He mentioned that Edwards has a high blitz IQ and awareness, which could lead to productive plays for the team.
In addition to Edwards, freshman linebacker Xavier Griffin has also garnered attention during preseason training. Griffin, a five-star recruit and the top linebacker in the 2026 class, is noted for his size and past performance, including 78 tackles and four sacks in his senior year. However, Alabama's safety lineup is expected to be led by Bray Hubbard, a second-team All-American, and fifth-year senior Keon Sabb.
