Alaska Governor Disappointed Over Stalled LNG Pipeline Bill

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy voiced his disappointment regarding the failure of a bill aimed at advancing the Alaska LNG project, which seeks to export natural gas to Asia. The bill stalled in the state legislature, with lawmakers deciding not to reconvene this session to vote on a necessary tax change for the $50 billion project.

Dunleavy indicated that this decision would send a negative signal to investors and potential partners, as the project is crucial for increasing domestic gas access. He emphasized that Alaska is facing a growing issue of limited affordable natural gas, which has become more urgent over time.

In light of the situation, Dunleavy is urging lawmakers to reconvene on August 20 to vote on the matter. The Trump administration previously supported the Alaska LNG project as a means to enhance national security and trade, particularly with Japan, where major LNG importers have signed preliminary agreements to purchase gas from the project.
