Albon Faces 20-Place Penalty at Monza, Joining Antonelli at the Back

Alexander Albon will start from the back of the grid at the Italian GP due to a 20-place penalty, joining Kimi Antonelli, who also faces significant penalties.

Alexander Albon has been assigned a 20-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix after Williams installed new power-unit components. This penalty positions him alongside championship leader Kimi Antonelli at the rear of the grid, regardless of their qualifying results.

Albon's penalty stems from the installation of a fifth internal combustion engine and a fourth control electronics unit, each incurring a ten-place penalty due to exceeding his season allocation. The total penalty surpasses 15 places, necessitating that he starts from the back.

Antonelli, driving for Mercedes, has also received penalties for similar component changes, resulting in a notional 30-place penalty. Unless further penalties are imposed, both drivers will occupy the last row on Sunday, shifting their focus during qualifying to race preparation rather than grid position.
