Following a victory over the New Jersey Devils, Alex Ovechkin is just one assist away from tying Nicklas Bäckström for the most assists in Washington Capitals history.
In a recent game, the Washington Capitals defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-2, with Alex Ovechkin contributing an assist that brings him one short of tying Nicklas Bäckström for the franchise record in assists.
Ovechkin's assist came during the second period, helping the Capitals secure their victory with goals from Ilya Protas, Dylan Strome, and Boone Jenner. This achievement is significant as Ovechkin aims to enhance his legacy in what may be his final NHL season.
Currently, Ovechkin holds franchise records for goals, games played, and power-play goals. Achieving the all-time assists record would solidify his status as a key offensive player in Capitals history, further contributing to his standing on the NHL's all-time points leaderboard.
