Alexander Blockx Makes History at U.S. Open

Alexander Blockx achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Belgian man to reach the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open, following his victory over Francisco Cerundolo on September 7, 2026, in New York.

The 21-year-old, who entered the tournament seeded 28th, won the match in four sets with scores of 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Blockx had previously upset fifth-seeded Flavio Cobolli in the third round and faced a challenging match against Cerundolo, especially after experiencing a sharp pain in his rib.

After splitting the first two sets, Blockx found himself in a tight situation at 5-5 in the third set but managed to secure the win with powerful serves and strokes. He celebrated his victory after breaking Cerundolo's serve in the final game of the fourth set. Blockx is set to compete next against either unseeded Russian Karen Khachanov or 14th-seeded Learner Tien from the United States.
