Alexander Zverev Becomes ATP World Number One After Vienna Victory

Alexander Zverev has ascended to the ATP world number one ranking following his victory over Tallon Griekspoor in the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

The German player won the match with scores of 6-4, 7-5, ensuring his position at the top of the rankings starting Monday. Zverev, who is 29 years old, becomes the second German to achieve this status, following Boris Becker in 1991.

This year, Zverev has had a remarkable season, winning two Grand Slam titles and achieving a match record of 64 wins out of 80. His rise to the top comes as previous leaders Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz faced injuries, allowing Zverev to capitalize on the situation.
