Alexander Zverev Exits Shanghai Masters Semi-Finals
Alexander Zverev, currently ranked world number two, reached the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters but was defeated by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. This match took place on Saturday, marking only the second victory for Davidovich Fokina in eight encounters with Zverev.
Zverev acknowledged feeling fatigued due to a packed schedule that included the US Open, Laver Cup, Beijing Masters, and Shanghai. Despite the loss, he expressed that he had overachieved during the tournament given his physical state. He noted that he had been dealing with injuries and fatigue, which affected his performance.
In the match, Zverev struggled with his forehand and was broken early in the third set, failing to regain control. This defeat contrasts with his earlier success in the tournament, including a straight-set victory over Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals. Davidovich Fokina will compete against Rafael Jodar in the final on Sunday.
