Alexandra Kosteniuk Discusses the Impact of Blitz Chess on Classical Game
Swiss Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk, a former women's world champion, expressed her belief that the popularity of rapid and blitz chess does not undermine classical chess. She stated that success in any format still relies on a solid foundation of hard work and understanding.
Speaking before the Global Chess League in Bengaluru, where she will compete for Triveni Continental Kings, Kosteniuk noted that shorter time controls are interconnected with classical chess. She emphasized that achieving good results in blitz or rapid formats requires diligent study of openings, tactics, and strategic principles.
Kosteniuk highlighted that elite players can deliver high-quality games even under time constraints. She also addressed concerns about the stagnation of women's chess, arguing that the game is progressing, despite the challenges of gaining rating points in a competitive environment.
