Allisha Gray Undergoes Surgery, Status for WNBA Finals Uncertain
Allisha Gray, a key player for the Atlanta Dream, recently underwent a minor surgical procedure on her left shooting hand due to an injury sustained during the semifinals against the New York Liberty. The timing of the surgery is unclear, and her participation in Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals against the Golden State Valkyries remains uncertain.
Gray, who averaged 19 points per game in the regular season, was injured early in the semifinal match. After briefly leaving the game, she returned but aggravated the injury and has not played since. Despite her absence, the Dream managed to sweep the Liberty to reach the finals. During a recent practice, Gray was seen participating in shooting drills with her left ring and pinky fingers taped together.
The Dream's chances of winning their first championship may depend on Gray's return. Coach Karl Smesko acknowledged her importance to the team, highlighting her offensive and defensive skills. While other players performed well in the semifinals, facing the Valkyries, known for their strong defense, poses a significant challenge without Gray's presence on the court.
