Alonso's Future with Aston Martin Remains Uncertain

Aston Martin is optimistic about retaining Fernando Alonso for the 2027 season, but Alonso has not confirmed his future with the team. Mike Krack, the chief trackside officer, mentioned that discussions are ongoing and there is no rush to finalize a decision this month.

Alonso expressed skepticism about whether recent improvements, such as a ninth-place finish at Zandvoort, provide sufficient motivation for him to continue. He indicated that while he is committed to performing well regardless of the car's position, he is frustrated with the current regulations that affect how the cars are driven.

Alonso emphasized that he does not want to make an indefinite commitment to a long-term rebuilding process. He expects significant progress within two to three years rather than five. Additionally, he raised concerns about the performance of Honda's latest engine, which he found lacking at Zandvoort. Aston Martin must address both the competitiveness of the car and the regulations to secure Alonso's commitment.
