Alpha Zeta Fraternity Relocates After Fire Damage
Penn State’s Alpha Zeta fraternity will relocate to the vacant Delta Chi house for the 2026-27 academic year after a fire severely damaged its historic chapter house last month.
The fraternity has secured the Delta Chi house on East Fairmount Avenue for the fall and spring semesters, allowing members to live together while repairs are made to their original home at 360 N. Burrowes Street, which is expected to be ready by fall 2027.
The fire, which occurred on July 9, affected the third floor and attic of the century-old building, causing extensive water damage. The Centre Region Fire Marshal ruled the fire as unintentional, with no injuries reported. The Delta Chi house became available after Penn State suspended the fraternity for hazing violations. Alpha Zeta members are set to move in during the week before the fall semester starts on August 24, with about 15 members currently planning to reside there. This temporary arrangement will result in higher rental costs, prompting Alpha Zeta to launch a GoFundMe campaign that has raised nearly $15,000 to assist with expenses.
