Alpine Revives Folding Rear Wing for Gasly's Historic Monza Pole

Alpine has reinstated its folding rear wing with two collapsing flaps as part of a low-downforce configuration for the 2026 F1 season, following its removal after the initial three races.

Pierre Gasly achieved his first career pole position at Monza, a venue where he previously celebrated a victory six years ago. Initially, Alpine aimed for a top 10 finish in qualifying, but the team exceeded expectations, capitalizing on opportunities during the session.

The A526 car, configured for reduced aerodynamic drag, performed well on the long straights, and the return of the unique rear wing design contributed to this success. This wing had been previously shelved in favor of a more conventional mechanism. The adjustments made for Monza were deemed more efficient, enhancing the car's performance without the need for additional downforce elements.
