Alvin Kamara to Sit Out Season Opener Against Lions

Alvin Kamara will not participate in the New Orleans Saints' season opener against the Detroit Lions, despite having practiced fully on Friday. Reports indicated that the decision was made to prioritize his recovery.

Kamara has been recovering from an MCL sprain sustained during training camp in August. Although he had shown significant progress by participating in practice, the Saints opted for caution, allowing him another week to heal before potentially returning for the next game against the Baltimore Ravens.

With Kamara sidelined, Travis Etienne Jr. is expected to take on the primary role in the Saints' backfield. Additional support will come from Kendre Miller and rookie CJ Donaldson, who was recently elevated from the practice squad. The Saints' coaching staff had indicated that even if Kamara had been activated, his playing time would likely have been limited.
