Alysa Liu, Olympic Champion, to Take Break from Competition
Alysa Liu, the women's Olympic figure skating champion, has confirmed her decision to refrain from competition during the 2026-27 season.
The 21-year-old athlete made history as the first American female to win Olympic gold in women's singles since 2002 at the Milano Cortina Games, where she also contributed to the U.S. team's gold medal in the team event. Liu announced her break via social media, stating her intention to work on her technique and indicating that she will miss the upcoming World Championships in Finland.
Liu expressed her desire to challenge herself and evolve her artistry and skating. She has previously taken breaks from the sport, including a retirement announcement in 2022 at the age of 16, before returning to win the world championship and Olympic gold.
