Amit Mishra Discusses Struggles with Depression After Being Dropped from Indian Cricket Team
Amit Mishra, a former leg-spinner for India, shared his experience of facing depression after being dropped from the national cricket team. This challenging period in his career lasted for 18 months, during which he struggled to understand the reasons behind his exclusion from the team.
Mishra debuted internationally in 2003 but soon found himself out of the squad and not selected for domestic tournaments. Despite his ongoing participation in cricket, he was consumed by questions about his performance. A conversation with a selector eventually clarified that he needed to focus on his domestic game rather than solely aiming for a return to the national team.
After reflecting on the selector's feedback, Mishra redirected his efforts towards improving his performance in domestic cricket. This change led to his return to the Indian team in 2008, nearly five years after his debut, where he went on to play 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is, taking a total of 156 wickets across all formats.
