Anaya Bangar Approved to Play Domestic Cricket in Australia

Anaya Bangar has received approval from Cricket Australia to resume her cricket career in elite competitions. The daughter of former Indian men's cricket team coach Sanjay Bangar, she previously played as a top-order batter and all-rounder in Mumbai's youth divisions.

After undergoing gender-affirming surgery in March 2026, Anaya expressed her joy at the approval, reflecting on her earlier doubts about returning to the sport. She has been an advocate for transgender athletes and actively shares her experiences on social media.

Cricket Australia has cleared her to participate in women's community and Premier Cricket across all states and territories. She is also eligible for elite franchise selection, such as the Women’s Big Bash League, starting in March 2027, provided she meets specific monitoring requirements regarding her testosterone levels.

While the International Cricket Council has imposed restrictions on transgender players who have undergone male puberty, Australia allows participation in domestic cricket under strict testing protocols. As of now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has not set clear regulations for transgender players.
