Andrew Knizner Becomes Free Agent After Leaving Red Sox

Andrew Knizner, a veteran catcher, has opted out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox and is now a free agent. The 31-year-old player, who joined Boston on a minor league deal in late June, performed well at Triple-A Worcester, achieving a 141 wRC+ over 21 games.

Before his time with the Red Sox, Knizner had a successful stint with Albuquerque, where he posted a .279/.371/.590 slash line in 33 games. He began the year with the Seattle Mariners after being designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants, where he had a .598 OPS in 33 games. Knizner has played for multiple teams in recent years, primarily with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Knizner's strong minor league performance may enhance his chances of signing with another team. Meanwhile, the Red Sox recently acquired catcher Adley Rutschman from the Orioles, who is currently on the injured list but has begun a rehab assignment. Boston is in a favorable position for a Wild Card spot in the AL, having won nine consecutive games.
