Andy McCann Prepares to Lead England in UEFA Regions Cup
Andy McCann, who serves as an assistant headteacher at Great Sankey High School in Warrington, is preparing to take on the role of England manager for a week. He will lead the Cheshire League representative team in the UEFA Regions Cup, where they will compete against teams from Finland, Portugal, and Sweden.
The Cheshire League team earned their spot in this amateur tournament by winning the FA Inter-League Cup on May 9. The Regions Cup, established in 1996, features teams that qualify or are nominated to participate in an intermediate round, with the winners advancing to the finals.
McCann and his team will depart for Sweden on September 6, aiming to make history by being the first England team to reach the finals. The squad, composed of amateur players with various day jobs, is focused on performing well, with meticulous plans for their training and recovery during the trip.
