Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Chiefs, has successfully avoided the physically unable to perform list as training camp begins and has been practicing without issues throughout the summer. However, head coach Andy Reid refrained from making any definitive statements regarding Mahomes' availability for the first game of the season.

Although Mahomes did not participate in the team's initial two preseason games, he expressed a desire to play against the Buccaneers. Reid acknowledged this wish but indicated that Mahomes was likely not sufficiently cleared for that matchup. He also mentioned that he would not speculate on Mahomes' status for the September 14 game against the Broncos.

Reid confirmed that Mahomes is progressing well and emphasized a cautious approach, stating that decisions will be made based on medical advice and Mahomes' own feelings about his readiness. Meanwhile, other quarterbacks on the team are performing well in practice.
