Angels Add Sammy Peralta to Roster
The Los Angeles Angels have announced the selection of left-handed pitcher Sammy Peralta's contract, filling a spot on their 40-man roster. This move comes after right-hander Shaun Anderson was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation.
Peralta, 28, joined the Angels on a minor league deal in June after becoming a free agent following his time with the Rockies. He has pitched 16 1/3 innings for Triple-A Salt Lake, where he has allowed 17 earned runs, resulting in a 9.37 earned run average. Despite this high ERA, his performance metrics indicate a 22.9% strikeout rate and a low 4.8% walk rate.
With 32 major league appearances, including five with the Angels last season, Peralta has a career ERA of 5.40. His opportunity with the Angels may allow him to improve his statistics, as he still has an option remaining, enabling the team to send him back to Triple-A if necessary.
