Angels Assign Sammy Peralta and Sebastián Rivero to Triple-A
The Los Angeles Angels have announced the assignment of left-hander Sammy Peralta and catcher Sebastián Rivero to Triple-A Salt Lake after both players went unclaimed on waivers. This decision comes as the offseason begins.
Peralta, 28, had a mixed season in 2026, pitching 23 innings across stints with the Rockies and Angels, achieving a 6.65 earned run average. He recorded a strikeout rate of 20.5% and a walk rate of 8%, but struggled with home runs and had a high .417 batting average on balls in play. Over his four major league seasons, he has a career ERA of 5.64.
Rivero, 27, managed only 57 plate appearances with the Angels, posting a batting line of .245/.286/.283. He has experience as a backup catcher with both Kansas City and Anaheim, totaling 164 major league plate appearances. Known for his defensive skills, Rivero has not excelled offensively in the minors either. Both players are expected to pursue opportunities as free agents.
