Ankur and Yashaswini Win Singles Titles at Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships
Ankur Bhattacharjee and Yashaswini Ghorpade secured the men’s and women’s singles championships at the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships held at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi. This event concluded with India winning four out of five gold medals on Sunday.
In the men’s final, Ankur staged a remarkable comeback against Payas Jain after losing the first game. The match lasted 70 minutes, with Ankur ultimately winning 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4, 11-9. Yashaswini, on the other hand, dominated her final against Sreeja Akula, winning 11-6, 11-1, 8-11, 11-7, 13-11.
Both champions faced tough semifinal matches earlier in the day, with Yashaswini narrowly defeating Syndrela Das and Sreeja overcoming Sutirtha Mukherjee. Despite the challenges, Yashaswini's performance in the final was strong, allowing her to secure a significant title after a previous loss in the women’s doubles final.
