Anthony Richardson Poised to Secure Backup QB Role After Strong Preseason Performance
Anthony Richardson, who lost his starting position last year, is now favored to retain the backup quarterback role for the Indianapolis Colts as the season approaches.
In the preseason finale against the Lions, Richardson completed 7 of 10 passes for 80 yards, finishing the preseason with a total of 21 completions on 33 attempts for 249 yards and one interception. His performance outshone that of Riley Leonard, who recorded 3 completions on 7 attempts for 48 yards and also threw an interception.
Despite the Colts not scoring a touchdown in their three preseason games, Richardson expressed confidence in his ability to manage the offense effectively. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft and is entering the final year of his contract.
