Anthony Richardson to Start for Colts in Preseason Opener
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that quarterback Anthony Richardson will lead the team in their preseason opener against the New England Patriots on Thursday evening.
Richardson is expected to play the first half, followed by Riley Leonard in the second half. The game will take place at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, marking the first of three preseason games for the Colts.
Daniel Jones, the anticipated starter recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, will not participate in any preseason games. Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is competing with Leonard for the backup position. Both quarterbacks have shown potential during training camp, with Steichen emphasizing the need for one to take advantage of the opportunity. The preseason games will provide a platform for both players to showcase their skills and progress.
